In the InForMed project an integrated pilot line for medical devices is being established, covering the complete innovation chain from technology concept to system qualification. It will include micro-fabrication, assembly and even the fabrication of miniaturized medical devices in order to bridge the gap in the landscape of micro-fabrication of medical devices between concept creation and full-scale production.

The pilot line will be demonstrated by, among others, the Steering deep brain stimulation probe (Demonstrator 4). The aim of this research is to enable improvement of the current Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) probe by developing an implantable flexible platform allowing for integration of electronics in the probe’s tip (Chip-in-Tip). Such a platform will not only contribute to reduction of DBS treatment side effects and improvement of patient’s comfort, but will also allow for cost efficient fabrication and miniaturization of other implantable devices.
