Themes: Micro/Nano System Integration and Reliability

This project aims to working on the micro/nano optics for new applications, for example, particle detection. Air quality is a big issue in the developing countries nowadays, which draws the great requirement for the detection of hazardous particles in the air. In this work we are going to develop a portable low power and inexpensive device that can monitor the concentration of PM2.5. The targeted device features are small, lightweight, low power and quite sensitive. The device has been designed, fabricated and preliminary tests have been carried out in order to demonstrate the device capabilities. Out of the integration of optics in MEMS devices for particle detection, we are also aiming to explore nano material for the new optical detection applications. Thanks to the great absorbance coefficient of carbon nanotube, the binary optics can be built up in an easier way integrated with CNT. In this work we are going to explore the possibilities of using CNT for the optical application.
